Donald and Doris Becker
You can change the trajectory of a child’s life by giving that child a precious gift—a little bit of your time.
Become an advocate in our community to help a child who has been removed from their home due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. It’s worth it… to make a difference in the life of a child.
Doris was sworn in as a CASA volunteer in September 1995 and Donald followed in February 2001. Almost twenty years ago to this day I saw an ad in the Santa Barbara Newspress looking for persons to train to become CASA volunteers. I am most proud to be involved with CASA because… we are helping children, one at a time. My fondest memory of my time with CASA is all the great memories. Even today when my phone rings and I hear the manly voice of my 21 year-old, former CASA boy, my heart warms. I’m proud of all he has accomplished. He is the first in his family to graduate from high school. He is in the Air Force, provides for himself and his beautiful wife. He is a kind and considerate young man. We never hang up without him telling me that he loves us and is always here for us. (A roll reversal now that we are older). This is just one of my many stories…
One thing I wish for CASA’s 20th birthday celebration is for you to give CASA a try. Become a volunteer. You don’t know what you are missing and how much good you can do.
