  • Every day in the United States 3 children die because of abuse or neglect.

  • Every year in the United States 18,000 children are permanently disabled and 565,000 children are seriously injured because of abuse or neglect.

  • 588,000 children are in foster care in the U.S.

  • 677 children are in foster care in Santa Barbara County.

  • In 2006, 141 CASA of Santa Barbara County volunteers advocated on behalf of 194 foster children.

  • Our CASA volunteers range in age from 21 to over 70.

  • Most of our volunteers work full-time: as teachers, pilots, social service workers, and salespeople; for the government, non-profits, corporations and their own companies.

  • Some of our volunteers work part-time, and many others are students, retirees, community volunteers and full-time parents.

  • CASA of Santa Barbara County is a non-profit organization with 11 staff members.

  • We maintain quality standards of a maximum of 30 CASA volunteers per case manager.

  • The CASA program offers initial training up to six times per year.

  • There are over hundreds of children in the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Court system waiting for a CASA volunteer.
